A new RTÉ Investigates report has profiled Irish‑Uyghur woman Nuria Zyden and detailed the harassment, surveillance and pressure she and her family have faced due to her human rights advocacy.
RTÉ’s piece situates Ms Zyden’s experience within a wider pattern of transnational repression against Uyghurs living outside China. It notes that around 200 Uyghurs live in Ireland, part of a global community drawn from an ethnic population of approximately 12 million. Read the RTÉ article.
“No one in Ireland should be harassed for speaking about human rights. What our community experiences here reflects a global pattern of intimidation that must be named and addressed. We thank RTÉ for shining a light on this issue and we call on Irish institutions to ensure protection for human rights defenders and accountability across supply chains.”
